Should we be home-schooling our kids?

What’s the most important thing for our children right now?

Will my kids fall behind?

I’m so stressed–I’m worried I can’t teach my kids everything they need to know right now.

I talk with my sister, an elementary school teacher in the Bay Area about the impact of COVID-19 and distance learning for our school aged children.

The biggest takeaway? We need to be there emotionally for our kiddos as much as we can, but we don’t need to fixate on what they aren’t getting education-wise.

Our children can’t learn when they are stressed–and right now, we are ALL stressed because of the global pandemic.

If we focus on reassuring them that home is a safe and secure place, they will learn a lot on a social-emotional level which is more important right now. Reading, writing, math, science, history–they will catch up in these areas when they return to in-person education.

Be easy on yourselves, parents! We’re all in this together.
