Maria Trauma Therapist Sacramento

Hi! I’m Maria.

I’m the type of therapist who will help you dig deep to find healing and growth–even when it feels so out of reach. I love working with people who had to “grow up fast”, who notice that their past continues to influence how they experience connection, intimacy, and their sense of self.

My clients tell me I make them feel deeply understood, accepted, and seen. I help them feel hopeful about the future and more accepting of themselves.

I provide trauma therapy for adults:

On the surface, you seem to “have it all together” but behind the scenes you continue to struggle with the lingering consequences of your painful or difficult childhood experiences. You struggle to notice or communicate your emotions, needs, and boundaries without panicking or shutting down. You’ve been told that you’re “self-aware”, but insight hasn’t been enough to help you change how your mind and body responds to reminders of the past. You’re ready to move forward but feel frustrated, stuck, and ashamed that you haven’t been able to push through this yet.

Through therapy, you can feel like you are enough–there isn’t something wrong with you. You can feel safe in your relationships and confident in your ability to manage your emotions & triggers.

I also provide couples therapy:

I help stuck and worried couples work through their past traumatic experiences and learn how to better connect and communicate (even through the really hard moments).

You really love each other, but whenever you have hard conversations it turns into an argument. You feel worried if you fully let your partner see how your past still impacts you, it will be too much and that they’ll leave you. You’re scared that the patterns left by your past trauma will be the reason for this relationship to end.

Through therapy, you can feel understood and accepted by your partner, confident in your ability to handle the hard moments and secure even through disconnection or conflict.

On a personal note…

My approach to this work is deeply grounded in my reverence for the resilience of trauma survivors and their loved ones. I have worked with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and people impacted by war. I strongly believe that as humans, we have an innate capacity to move towards transformation and healing.

As a middle eastern immigrant, I recognize the ways that our identities inform our lived experiences, the oppression we have endured, and our unmet needs for safety, community, and connection.

Outside of work, I am a dog mom and a lover of podcasts, historical fiction, bad reality TV, long walks and laughing.
