Are you hoping premarital counseling will help provide a foundation for a happy marriage?

  • Do you want to make sure that your marriage is strong enough to last?
  • Do you need extra support as you navigate the stress of wedding planning and merging your families?
  • Do you want a road map that that will keep your marriage secure even when facing the most common relationship stressors?

You’re looking forward to standing in front of the important people in your lives and vowing, “I choose you.”

You’re also aware that relationships take work and you want to be the relationship that stands the test of time.

Before you walk down the aisle is the perfect time to lay a strong foundation for your future.

You were very thoughtful about finding the partner who you felt safe enough with to build a future.

Dating these days is hard. Dating apps. Ghosting. Sifting through potential matches trying to find someone who makes you laugh AND who has similar values as you.

You found your person. And you want to make sure you are doing everything you can to build a strong marriage from day one. You understand it’s not just a wedding, it’s a marital partnership that will take consistent showing of love and empathy.

You’ve heard that attending therapy together before your wedding can be helpful even if you haven’t faced big problems yet. You don’t want a religious component to premarital counseling, but you aren’t sure where to turn.

Premarital Counseling helps you build your best relationship & life

You are ready for Premarital Counseling because you want to:

♥ Focus on fun, love & connection. Let’s keep it positive.  No need for lectures on what you are doing “wrong”–you have so many strengths–let’s build on them!

♥ Find the best ways for you to de-stress individually and together.  Because let’s face it–wedding planning is stressful.  Stress attacks relationships and by learning to come together when facing challenges, you will be ready for your future–whether it’s home-ownership, babies, or crazy work demands.

Our premarital counselors are here to support you

You have a very strong relationship, but you’re struggling with:

  • Pressure from parents and in-laws as you wedding plan
  • Worries that overtime your love will fade if you don’t have the right tools
  • Mismatched values or beliefs about sex, money, parenting, careers or family boundaries
  • Getting into more squabbles than normal even though you want to feel connected on your wedding day
  • Worried you’ll repeat the same mistakes your parents did (or that you won’t live up to their love)

Most premarital counselors either want to lecture you on religious beliefs and gender roles or they use regular couples therapy techniques that are mismatched because you’re not having big fights. Love Heal Grow premarital counselors draw upon EFT, IFS, and Gottman Method to help you with the exact problems you are having now as an engaged couple.

What To Expect In Premarital Counseling

Your couples therapist will want to get to know you, your partner, the history of your relationship and what your goals are for premarital counseling. They will then make a personalized plan to support you.

Your premarital therapist will:

  • Learn about the history of your relationships and the goals for your marriage
  • Assess any stressors you are currently experiencing as well as any you are anticipating in the future
  • Highlight which relationship strengths you have that you can fall back on in times of distress while also introducing new skills which can help you as your relationship progresses over the years
  • Provide education and tips about the most common times that relationships struggle over the many years of marriage
  • Provide deeper couples therapy if there is pain in the present or past that needs healing.

Love Heal Grow premarital counselors and therapists can help you finally create the life & marriage you dream about.

Our premarital counselors believe you’ll love these aspects of premarital therapy:

Fun, Love & Connection

We’ll focus on the fun, love & connection in your relationship.  Sometimes, the engagement phase of a relationship can pull you in many directions or set you on an emotional rollercoaster.  Your relationship is a touchstone to come back to and premarital counseling can help ensure you are making time for the fun, love and connection you want to stay strong.

De-Stress

Okay, we’ll just say it…wedding planning is stressful!  As soon as we’re engaged (and sometimes before) we get bombarded by everyone’s expectations for the wedding.  There can be huge pressure to do things a certain way, to figure out how to pay for everything, and oftentimes family issues get triggered–all of this puts stress on you as individuals and on the relationship itself.  Premarital counseling can help you de-stress by learning how to best support each other during this time.

Preventative Care for your Marital Health

We have participated in hundreds of hours of training on what makes a marriage last, we’ve worked with thousands of couples, and we have a bookshelves filled with books on the topic.  We love passing along what we have learned to the couples who are interested.

Our couples have told us that they see premarital counseling as insurance for their marriage–they have tools to keep their relationship strong, and they now know someone they can turn to if they get thrown any curve balls in the future.

Planning your Future

This is one of our favorite parts of premarital counseling because it honors the uniqueness of your relationship and marriage.  When we get married, we are starting a new family together (even when we don’t have children).

What traditions and values do you want the foundation of your marriage to rest on?  What is your vision for your marriage?  Premarital counseling sets the framework for these discussions, inspiring you and aligning you in shared dreams.

Grow Together

All couples have topics that come up in their relationships that they might want to improve.  These are areas of growth and premarital counseling can help you grow together in these areas instead of apart.

Will you test us to see if we are compatible?

Absolutely not. Assessing compatibility for marriage was started by religious organizations to keep parishioners in line with the church beliefs and values. We believe these types of assessments can do more harm than good.

What we will do is teach you about the qualities in a relationship that science has discovered are most likely to make relationships feel secure, happy and safe for years to come.

Can we do premarital counseling if we are fighting a lot?

Absolutely. Your therapist will be able to support you with science-backed couples therapy methods that help us decrease conflict and build secure relationships. They will sprinkle in tips for premarital couples, but the deeper work of healing your conflict cycle is more important right now.

Do you sell a premarital package?

We don’t offer packages, but if you are on a budget and you are not feeling distress in your relationship, your therapist should be able to provide you with marital education and tools in a 6-8 sessions. Please email hello@lovehealgrow.com to inquire about short term premarital counseling.

Your best life is going to grow out of your strong relationship

When we feel secure in our primary relationship, we feel like we can conquer anything! Investing in premarital counseling is an investment in all the wonderful components of your future.
